Archiving Policy

Archiving Policy for Frontiers in Agriculture

Frontiers in Agriculture adheres to a commitment to preserve and disseminate high-quality scientific research for future generations. As part of this commitment, we have developed the following archiving policy to ensure that published content remains accessible, secure, and well-preserved.

1. Preservation of Published Articles

All articles published in Frontiers in Agriculture are deposited in multiple trusted digital archives to ensure long-term preservation and accessibility. These repositories serve as a backup system for the preservation of the articles and guarantee that our content remains available for future use.

  • Primary Archiving Partners: We collaborate with multiple established repositories, including but not limited to:
    • CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
    • Portico
    • PubMed Central (for applicable articles)
    • Institutional Repositories (depending on the article’s author affiliation)

These archives are recognized globally for their capacity to securely store academic publications and ensure permanent availability.

2. Digital Object Identifier (DOI)

Each article published in Frontiers in Agriculture is assigned a unique DOI (Digital Object Identifier). This ensures a permanent and reliable link to the article's metadata and content, enhancing its visibility and facilitating its long-term citation.

3. Open Access and Self-Archiving

Frontiers in Agriculture is an open-access journal. Authors retain copyright over their work and are encouraged to self-archive their published manuscripts in their respective institutional repositories or personal websites, adhering to the journal’s self-archiving policy. However, authors must acknowledge the published version of the article and include the appropriate DOI link when posting their work.

  • Postprint Archiving: Authors may upload the final published version (post-peer-reviewed and accepted) to personal or institutional repositories after an embargo period, as specified by the journal’s copyright policy.

4. Backup and Security

The digital preservation process is designed to maintain the integrity and security of the published content. All manuscripts are stored in multiple, geographically dispersed data centers with robust security measures to prevent data loss, corruption, or unauthorized access.

5. Content Accessibility

The full text of all published articles is made available for free through our website and our archival partners, ensuring unrestricted access to the academic community, practitioners, and the general public. Frontiers in Agriculture ensures that the digital content complies with best practices for accessibility, allowing seamless access for all users.

6. Long-term Access and Updates

The archiving policy will be reviewed periodically to incorporate advances in digital preservation practices and evolving standards for academic publishing. Any necessary updates or changes to the policy will be communicated promptly.

7. Archiving for Authors and Institutions

Authors are encouraged to ensure that their institution’s repository complies with the terms of the archiving policy. Authors are also encouraged to engage with institutional and other relevant third-party archiving solutions to further secure their research work.
